Combating Food Waste

October 24, 2011

Even though many people on earth are hungry, wealthy nations continue to waste 222 million tons of food each year.

"In the U.S. alone, we waste enough food in one day to fill the 90,000-seat Rose Bowl. Fortunately, a number of initiatives in North Dakota are making a difference".

The Great Plains Food Bank gathers leftover food from grocery stores, restaurants, and food drives. The food is then distributed to hundreds of charitable feeding programs, reaching over 60,000 people a day.

Fill your plate with just enough food. Be considerate. A lot of people can't have a decent meal in other parts of the country.
