Mysterious Apple Shower in Britain

December 16, 2011

In the small British town of Coventry, more than a 100 apples mysteriously showered from the sky.  The streets were covered with apples, conveniently during rush hour.

There has not been a confirmed explanation of the fruitful downpour.  Some have made biblical references to raining frogs.  Witnesses reported that the weather in Coventry was stable and calm at the time of the apple avalanche. One driver said "The apples fell out of the sky as if out of nowhere. They were small and green and hit the bonnet hard.  There were other cars on the road at the time too and everyone had to stop their cars suddenly."

Coventry residents have offered competing explanations for the event, including a passing plane, roving teenage pranksters--and, even, witches.  Senior meteorologist from the British Weather Services, Jim Dale, offered that "The weather we have at the moment is very volatile and we probably have more to come. Essentially these events are caused when a vortex of air, kind of like a mini tornado, lifts things off the ground rising up into the atmosphere until the air around it causes them to fall to earth again" to the London Telegraph.

Perhaps on the bright side, it wasn't raining sides of beef or field pumpkins. While my own theory is not quite hatched out yet, I may look to crop circles for clues.;-)
