Do Dollar Stores Sell Expired Food?

There's no question that strapped families have started doing more and more of their shopping at dollar stores across the country. But Consumer Reports warns bargain shoppers to be vigilant about checking the expiration date of foods they purchase at discount dollar stores. 

One woman in who talked to a Detroit telelvison station, WXYZ (ed: examine your zipper?) says she bought mayonnaise at a dollar store months past it's expiration date. 

Consumer Reports did their own research and found many food products and vitamins to be expired. Consumer Reports adds dollar stores are ideal for items like paper products and school supplies, but shoppers should be careful with perishables like food and vitamins.
