14 Dead In Germany From Tainted Cucumbers

May 31, 2011

More than two weeks after German officials discovered cucumbers tainted with the deadly bacteria e-coli, more than 1,200 are suspected to have been sickened and 14 people have died

Stockholm-based European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has described the outbreak as "one of the largest worldwide and the largest ever reported in Germany".

The cucumbers are suspected to have been imported from Spain. Fears of more contamination have led German, Belguim and other countries to block food imports from Spain for the time being.
