The Locavore
Living in Seattle, I am blessed with the opportunity to purchase an astonishing variety of wines made in my home state. But the vast majority of the grapes that make these wines come from Eastern Washington. That's why I am a fan of the white wines from Whidbey Island Winery. Grown not too far from Seattle, these white wines made from such unusual grapes as Siegerrebe, Madeleine Angevine, and Madeleine Sylvaner are a light and refreshing way to start your Thanksgiving feast before you sit down at the table. If you live in an area conducive to only producing wines of mediocre quality, I'd err on the side of bringing something tasty, no matter how far it traveled. The local, heirloom turkey will more than make up for it, right?
