Sake Shipments Delayed for Radiation Testing

May 3, 2011

Sake shipments into the UK have been delayed for radiation testing. Decanter is reporting that the ongoing nuclear disaster at Fukushima is keeping sake destined for export in Japan as officials attempt to certify that the products are radiation-free.

However, the larger concern is for next year's production. Natural spring water is a crucial component of sake, and the possibility of radiation seeping into the water supply has the industry worried.
