The Winemaker Picnic & Barrel Auction is back again this summer at the beautiful grounds of Chateau Ste. Michelle on Friday August 12 at 5 pm. Over 50 winemakers will be roaming and pouring at the Picnic with over 100 wines to taste. These wines are from the major AVA’s (American Viticultural Area) in Washington state. Also, pair the wine with these Picnic BBQ bits.
This fundraiser is hosted by Auction of Washington Wines, a non-profit organization. Since their inception in 1988 they have raised over $55 million. There are three beneficiaries of the auction: Seattle Children’s Hospital, WSU Viticulture & Enology, and Vital Wines.
Children’s provided more than $246 million in uncompensated care medical services in 2021. Seattle Children’s has been one of the auction’s beneficiaries since the very beginning. WSU Viticulture & Enology is, of course, one of the leaders in researching the contemporary issues facing the wine industry and helping the wine industry solves these problems. Vital Wines improves equity in access to healthcare for vineyard workers and their families through education, advocacy and direct services.
